On the occasion of Corpus Christi, Pitigliano organizes the spectacular flower display, an ancient tradition dating back to 1600.La feast is anticipated by the Corpus Christi concert, in the cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, in Piazza San Gregorio VII, during which the districts are blessed. For the flower display starting from the early hours of the morning, the inhabitants of Pitigliano will pour into the streets of the historic center tracing drawings on the road surface – some with a sacred theme, others with a free theme – which during the various hours of the day will be filled and colored with the use of many flowers, green leaves and sawdust, for an enchanting artistic result. The floral paintings on the road pavement will be clearly visible for the whole day, until 5 p.m., when the Holy Mass takes place. Immediately afterwards, with the passage of the Corpus Christi procession, the floral carpets will be trampled on. It is customary, at the end of the procession, to take home a part of the flowers. The infiorata is an event that involves all citizens and tourists of all ages, it is a real village festival and this is one of the elements that people like the most, in addition to the beauty of the streets decorated with real works of floral art, to welcome the procession of Corpus Christi. Visitors can also participate in the setting up of the flower carpets.
