In the Sala Calvi of Palazzo della Meridiana, the workshop of Italea Italia and Italea Liguria to tell the stories of four distant personalities and a phenomenon that has contributed to shaping the cultural identity of Italy and spreading its values all over the world

On Thursday, September 12 at 1 p.m., in the Sala Calvi of Palazzo della Meridiana, the workshop “Giovanni Battista Pirelli, Amedeo Modigliani, Andrea Doria and Amerigo Vespucci: Stories of Emigration” will be held, conceived and created by Italea Italia and Italea Liguria as part of the World Tourism Event, the World Tourism Exhibition of Cities and UNESCO World Heritage Sites that will kick off tomorrow in Genoa for its fifteenth edition.

The meeting will offer a fascinating and profound look at a phenomenon that has marked Italian and world history.

Apparently distant in era and profession, Giovanni Battista Pirelli, Amedeo Modigliani, Andrea Doria and Amerigo Vespucci are united by a common thread: the experience of emigration.
A phenomenon that has not only influenced their lives, but has also helped shape Italy’s cultural identity and spread its values around the world.

Italian emigration, often reduced to a mere historical fact, is actually a crucial element of our national identity.
It is through this lens that the stories of these four great men will be analyzed, offering a new perspective on their influence globally.

This journey into the past is made possible thanks to the “Italea” project, the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dedicated to roots tourism, which aims to enhance and raise awareness of Italian migration experiences and their impact on the world.

During the workshop, experts and promoters of the “Italea” project will discuss these issues, bringing testimonies and insights:

  • Anna Duchini – Italea Toscana
  • Antonella Riccardi – Italea Liguria
  • Andrea Pedemonte – Italie Liguria
  • Leila Pruneti – Toscana Promozione Turistica
  • Mariangela Dalfovo – Regional Coordinator of Tuscany and Liguria Italy.
PNRR Project Roots Tourism – Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

It will be a unique opportunity to explore how emigration has contributed to making Italy great in the world and to understand the roots of a history that continues to influence our identity.
