CETICA – Municipality of Castel San Niccolò (AR), 6 August 2024 – Imagine going back to the roots of your family history, immersing yourself in the authentic flavors, breathtaking landscapes and centuries-old traditions of Tuscany.
This is the unique experience that Italea Toscana, the regional program dedicated to roots tourism, offers with the workshop “A Taste of Tuscan Roots
“, scheduled for Friday 09.08.2024 starting at 19:00 in Cetica, in the heart of Casentino.

Italea Toscana, a project supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and funded by the European Union under the PNRR – Next Generation EU, presents “A Taste of Tuscan Roots in Cetica”.

This event, the result of a collaboration between Italea Toscana and the Union of Mountain Municipalities of Casentino, as part of the activities of the Ecomuseum and the Casentino Memory Bank, the Municipality of Castel San Niccolò, the Pro Loco “I tre confini” of Cetica and the Casentino Tourist Area, invites you to rediscover your Italian roots through the flavors and traditions of Tuscany.

“A Taste of Tuscan Roots in Cetica” is an invitation to rediscover one’s Italian origins and to create a deep bond with the land of one’s ancestors.

An immersive experience to reconnect with the past

The event will offer tourists of the roots the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture, traditions and authentic flavors of the Casentino by retracing its history of emigration and its influences on the local culture.

The initiative, aimed at Italian-descendants but also open to anyone who wants to reconnect with their Italian origins, aims to offer an engaging experience. Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Taste: Prepare and enjoy typical Tuscan dishes, using local ingredients and recipes handed down for generations, under the guidance of expert chefs and local housewives.
  • Explore: Visit Cetica and its surroundings, discovering breathtaking landscapes, historic villages and natural treasures.
  • Listening: Knowing the stories that have shaped the Tuscan identity, through stories, testimonies and meetings with those who have experienced emigration firsthand.
  • Breathe: Immerse yourself in the unspoiled nature of the Casentino, among centuries-old woods and fragrant fields, to savor the essence of Tuscany

An opportunity to get to know the Italea project and its Services up close

During the event, participants will also be able to get to know the other opportunities offered by the Italea project, such as the Italea Card, which offers discounts and concessions at accommodation facilities, restaurants, wineries and other affiliated activities, as well as personalized travel assistance services and support for genealogical research.

A bridge between generations for slow and sustainable tourism

“With Italea Toscana we want to build a bridge between past and future, between the centuries-old traditions of the regional tourist areas and the new generations of Italian-descendants, nurturing conscious and sustainable tourism in Tuscany that enhances even the smallest villages and offers alternative and high-quality travel experiences,” says Pasquale Iervolino, Coordinator of Italea Toscana. “We believe that this intergenerational exchange is essential to preserve our culture and enhance the unique heritage of Tuscany. We are excited to be able to contribute to this process of rediscovery and rebirth.”

A journey through time to discover even the most recent past

After the tasting of the dishes of the roots, at 21:00, the Banca della Memoria del Casentino will present an evening of video projection dedicated to the theme of seasonal migrations, a phenomenon that has profoundly marked the social and economic history of the territory. For centuries, groups of charcoal burners, pinottolai, itinerant tosini and transhumant shepherds left the Casentino mountains during the winter to look for work in other regions, bringing with them their traditions and contributing to the cultural richness of Italy.
