The territory of Tresana located in Lunigiana in the province of Massa Carrara was one of the lands most affected by emigration. The First World War arrived to further aggravate the economic and social panorama, then in 1920, there was a disastrous earthquake that hit Lunigiana and subsequently followed by the Second World War. After the war, the old problems of the lack of economic recovery, the agricultural crisis and the lack of industrialization arose again and this favored the emigration of the Lunigiana people towards northern Italy, France, England and Switzerland. In this context, the Municipality of Tresana intends to carry out, in an aggregate form with the Municipality of Zeri, activities in favor of Italian descendants to promote family history and the reconstruction of the culture of origin. The activities will take place in the period of July 2024 on 26-27-28 on the occasion of the TASSONART event which has been present in the area for 3 years with the patronage of the Tuscany Region and the Union of Municipalities of Lunigiana and located in a characteristic village, the borgo of Tassonarla. In fact, it represents the place of departure for the majority of emigrants. In order to encourage and support local production activities, companies based in the municipal area will be involved, setting up refreshment points within the village for the tasting of typical products such as chestnut flour pancakes from the Toma’ Rita company , local bread and desserts produced by the Panificio Bianchini, cured meats from the Lunigiana Marsili and Marsili 54 companies, PDO honey from Lunigiana, also providing gastronomic workshops to raise awareness of the manufacturing and production processes of the products themselves. During these festive days, choral groups from the towns belonging to this Municipality will perform, such as the Chorale of S. Quirico, the Cantamaggio folklore group from Popetto-Castevoli. The tradition of the Canto del Maggio developed precisely in the villages of Lunigiana to greet the arrival of the beautiful season. Space will be given for moments of listening to our elderly with the collaboration of the Le Mie Radici Tresana Association which takes care of the management of the center daytime elderly people of the Municipality, and that therefore through their stories, the memory will be renewed to recover the stories and life of the recent past through the voice of those who were children in the last century.
