County Festival in Pitigliano

With the evocative historical re-enactment of the County Festival, the Renaissance takes center stage in Pitigliano. The event combines fun and culture, reconstructing the typical environment and atmosphere of the time, with the faithful reproduction of the costumes and dishes of the time. During the event it is possible to taste the best local specialties at the count’s canteen and purchase handicrafts at the county market, which offers thematic stalls dedicated to art, culture and ancient crafts. The protagonists of the Renaissance days are jugglers, acrobats, dancers and all the typical characters of that period. The County Festival 2024 will take place in the second half of August for a total duration of n. 3 days in which Pitigliano will go back in time and, along the streets of the village, you will be able to encounter processions in period dress accompanied by various events linked to ancient traditions:

• food and wine tasting of local products: during the event the Count’s Banquet in Renaissance style will be set up in honor of Count Niccolò III Orsini, inside the Palazzo Orsini in Pitigliano and the Hostaria del Viandante;

• over the three days, the County Market will be present with thematic stalls dedicated to art, culture and ancient crafts, where you can purchase craft objects;

• live music;

• organization of a thematic conference;

• performances by folklore groups, entertainment with acrobats, jugglers, jesters, archers and dancers;

• holding of the Palio dei Rioni during which the four historic districts of Pitigliano compete

Laboratories:

– 14 agosto ore 10:00 “Niccolò: l’uomo e il condottiero”. Meeting with the guide at the IAT – tourist information office Piazza G. Garibaldi 10.

Visit to Palazzo Orsini retracing the deeds of the Orsini family and in particular of Count Niccolò III (1442-1510), valiant and courageous leader of the County of Pitigliano.

Meeting with two figures of the historical procession in the role of Nicholas III and his wife, Countess Elena Conti, who will accompany visitors in the rooms of the Palace and then to the market specially set up during the days of the Festival. It will be an opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the party by taking a leap in time, the Renaissance Pitigliano, learn about the specially prepared dishes that will cheer the diners during the banquet dinner, and finally the organizers who animate the days of the event.

– 17 agosto ore 10:00 biscotto di mezz’agosto, which is part of the 464 Traditional Agri-Food Products and which represents a sort of historical collection, is a dish that was the mid-afternoon snack of the workers employed in threshing operations (threshing while standing on the threshing floor).
