The National Extemporaneous Painting Competition takes place over three days in the month of August in the hamlet of Corfino and sees the participation of artists from all over the world trying their hand at painting a landscape of their choice from the Garfagnana. In addition to a jury of experts, the vote of the population and of those who enjoy watching the competition will decide the winner. During the awards ceremony Sunday, the Affective Citizenships – certificates of recognition awarded by agreement between the President of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park (of which the Municipality of Villa Collemandina is part) and the Mayor – are awarded to personalities originating from the places of the Common, but residents elsewhere who have distinguished themselves and who have always maintained a strong connection with their lands of origin. It is an event of strong attraction for both locals and emigrants who return at this specific time of the year and repopulate the village for the summer season.

How to get there
Getting to Corfino: by train: on the Lucca/Aulla line reach the Castelnuovo di Garfagnana (LU) station, Corfino is about 12 km from the station by plane: “G.” airport Galilei” Pisa by car (main routes): -from Lucca take the SP20 “Ludovica” towards Castelnuovo Garfagnana then take the SR445 “della Garfagnana” and then merge onto the SP47 “di Canottola” and then onto the SP48 “Villa Collemandina-Corfino” (distance approximately 50 km) -from Modena: reachable from Passo delle Radici then follow SP72 “del Passo delle Radici” up to Castiglione di Garfagnana and then merge onto SP48 “Villa Collemandina-Corfino” (distance from Passo delle Radici approximately 30 km)
