The Emigrant’s Festival will bring back to life an ancient and consolidated initiative of the Municipality, which has always been an opportunity for meetings between communities and emigrants who return to their places of origin in the summer. Having reached its 52nd edition in 2010, which was then unfortunately interrupted, the Festival will be inaugurated on Saturday 7 September with the Emigrant Concert, in collaboration with the “I Ragazzi del Giglio” musical band and will continue throughout Sunday 8 September with workshops on emigration, guided tours, gastronomic tastings and debate spaces. The month of September promises to be a period of particular arrival for travelers from the roots due to the concomitance of anniversaries linked to emigration such as the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the nearby city of Lucca. The Emigrant’s Festival is an important moment of popular gathering where flavours, sounds and stories recall the experiences of those who were forced to abandon their native land to seek fortune elsewhere. Two days focused on return tourism and attention to traditional travelers who will be able to rediscover the area. During the celebration, for the twentieth anniversary of the Bank of Identity and Memory of Garfagnana, the volumes “Ramingo went searching – traces of history on the emigration of the Community of Fosciandora”, “Garfagnana under the eastern sector: the war front in Fosciandora”, and “Fosciandora’s participation in the Great War” by Ivano Stefani, a local expert involved in the creation of the roots workshops. A conference space will be set up to give voice to protagonists and scholars and the emigrants – or their descendants present – will be rewarded with a ceremony organized by the Mayor.
